Abstract

This paper investigates early stage concept iteration with a design consultancy environment. An empirical and journal-based literature review was used to develop a theoretical framework to advance research into the concept of ‘design Iterations’ within the consultancy environment. This work takes an action research approach to concept iteration in product form design and development at the early stage of the design process. Budgetary constraints, time management and client expectation were identified as determining factors in driving early concept iteration in the design consultancy environment. The findings of this action research work may be of use to design consultants and design management.
