Abstract:	Re-Turning is the most recent investigation by the Returns group, an ongoing project involving four artists: Andrew Brown, Joanne Lee, Danica Maier, and Christine Stevens. In this phase (September 2017-May 2019) we have undertaken periods of intensive research in Stoke-on- Trent, residencies in the city’s AirSpace Gallery and at Primary, Nottingham, and taken time for production and reflection in our own studios, resulting in an exhibition at AirSpace Gallery and this publication. Working under the title Returns, the group grew out of the Topographies of the Obsolete project, beginning with a 2012 residency at the former Spode ceramics factory. Since then Returns has repeatedly returned to investigate Stoke-on-Trent, its urban landscapes, diverse communities, manufacturing and craft skills, and the material history that has made it so distinctive.
