Abstract

The EAUC has declared a climate emergency and we all have to take in that we should reach a global warming of ‘only’ 1.5 C in the next ten years. What is the role of universities in achieving this target?
‘Think Tank’ on July 16.07.2019 from 11.00-16.00 in Nottingham developed together four impact maps for universities in the UK. Using system thinking, the aim was to get an understanding for the best action strategies on how to contribute to climate change mitigation in the following core activities of a university:
Leadership and Corporate Governance
Learning and Teaching
Partnerships and Engagement
Operations
The focus was on climate change mitigation, so what can we do to still achieve a positive future for us all?
The event was organised by Dr Petra Molthan-Hill, Fellow of the EAUC and Head of NTU’s Green Academy in collaboration with EAUC and NUS.
