Abstract

This technical report has been compiled as supplement to the report "Internationally mobile students and their post-graduation migratory behaviour: An analysis of determinants of student mobility and retention rates in the EU" (Weisser, 2015). Starting with an illustration of the status quo, this paper depicts the derivation of three main types of stay rates which are applicable in the setting of a crosscountry comparison in the EU. These derived statistics vary by country and subgroup coverage, and draw on different data sources, such as education permits, graduation data and EU-LFS data. Furthermore, outcomes are contrasted to evaluate their sensitivity with respect to underlying assumptions and data sources-this includes a direct comparison of stay rates for almost 170 countries of origin. In the end, this work may serve as a guide to replication in order to evaluate future trends in post-graduation staying behaviour of internationally mobile students in the EU.
