Abstract
In this chapter, we outline the theoretical underpinnings of visual methods in the context of qualitative research in psychology. We discuss the types of issue for which visual methods are suitable and consider the range of visual methods. We offer some guidelines for conducting a visual study, the forms of data that might be collected and potential forms of analysis. We outline how visual data can used alongside verbal qualitative data. The chapter also includes ethical issues in the use of visual data in research and concludes with a consideration of further work in this area.
