The British University in Egypt has been selected to join the MHESR COP27 Taskforce, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. One of the main purposes of this taskforce is to mobilize the efforts of higher education and scientific research institutions to support of Egypt's climate action efforts in hosting and presidency of the COP27. In this regard, the University together with the UNDP and the National Institute for Governance and Sustainability organize an international model to simulate the COP27. Students from Egyptian and international universities will be recruited and skilled in diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, compromise, public speaking, writing, and research. They should run into country delegates, technical experts, and representatives of international organizations. Students will be trained on discussing climate-related topics and conventions in the context of the summit.
Objective of the Simulation model and main deliverables
a. Skilling and upskilling youth, enhancing sustainability culture and awareness among students.
b. Raising awareness on climate-related agenda and obligations.
c. Supporting national efforts on COP27 as academic institution and the role of youth
d. Encourage collaboration between Egyptian academic institutions
