Abstract

The data represents the draft and developed versions of the Community Prescribing Toolkit. The toolkit was created and developed during a series of research studies conducted in pursuit of a PhD. The data regarding that thesis is accessible here:

The toolkit aims to increase the likelihood of social prescribing Link Workers connecting service-users to community groups they can identify with.

Social prescribing is a non-clinical health initiative that empowers a service-user to manage their psychosocial health needs by connecting them to local community resources, such as community groups. However, as an atheoretical intervention, there are concerns of disengagement during social prescribing. Applying a Social Identity Approach to social prescribing that recognises the importance of groups for our health and wellbeing could minimise disengagement within social prescribing. The toolkit was developed as a flexible tool for use in differing social prescribing schemes.

There are three versions of the developed toolkit recorded. Version 1 represents the first draft of the toolkit created from 27 qualitative interviews with Link Workers, group leaders, service-users and the Social Identity Approach to Health and wider group processes literature. Version 2 represents the second draft of the toolkit following its review by five Link Workers and three group leaders. Version 2 is split into two parts, a Community Prescribing Toolkit for Link Workers and a Community Prescribing Toolkit for group leaders. Version 3 represents the third draft of the toolkit following interviews with five service-users who had disengaged with a recommended community group. Version 3 remains split into two formats, a toolkit for Link Workers and a toolkit for group leaders.

Version 1 was developed between March and April 2021. Version 2 was developed between June and August 2021. Version three was developed between March and April 2023. Refinement logs are also present alongside Versions 2 and 3 of the toolkits.

The research that this toolkit was created from was funded by the Centre for Behavioural Research Methods.
