Abstract

Responding to literature calls to situate Human Resource Management (HRM) into public policy and regulatory contexts, we examine new British green job creation and critique it using discourse analysis and political theory. Findings from official and leaked British government texts and speeches reveal new UK-based green job creation appearing problematic due to their: marginalization of union and employee voices, policy implementation issues, and dependence on private equity funding. We contribute to the conference theme by illustrating such UK data as a valuable knowledge source to help drive forward positive change towards (in)directly building a global green jobs economy and increasing sustainability efforts in business and environmental stewardship. Implications arising for other countries are detailed, alongside future research ideas, study limitations and conclusions.
