Abstract

This dataset relates to the project ‘Research Ethics in Ukraine.’ The project aimed to explore how members of the Ukrainian higher education (HE) community pursue ethical research in a context heavily influenced by the war with Russia, while also dealing with persisting post-Soviet legacies in research. This dataset includes 10 interview transcripts translated into English. These interviews were conducted in late spring 2024 with members of the HE community in Ukraine who resided in Ukraine, including academics, graduate and postgraduate candidates, and relevant senior leadership team members. These interviews present personal testimonies of individuals engaged in various aspects of research and research ethics in their work or studies. The dataset also includes relevant data collection protocols in English and Ukrainian. This is the first research dataset of its kind on this topic, contributing to raising scholarly awareness and promoting further research on the opportunities and challenges faced by members of the Ukrainian HE community pursuing research in Ukraine.
