Description: | This themed selection of films is curated by the project’s investigator Cüneyt Çakırlar for the Istanbul Film Festival (8-19 April 2022). The programme aims to introduce Istanbul’s festival audiences to geographically diverse representations of folk horror in world cinema. Engaging with the recent revival of the folk horror genre featuring witches, shamans, trolls, djinns, demons, black magic and other paranormal phenomena, these films range from contemporary examples to historically significant masterpieces of horror film. |
