Abstract
Twelve years after the start of austerity measures, UK public services face enormous challenges, as a consequence of past actions or inactions, and the major global factors of ongoing climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and a cost of living crisis. Add to this there are huge and worsening social and economic inequalities between regions of the UK, a high and worsening degree of public policy failure and extensive voter apathy and disconnection. These represent a toxic mix which looks to be taking public policy and policy services to the brink.
This book takes an in-depth look at these issues and considers what might be done to resolve them
