Abstract

This paper describes the process of digitisation of the Nuestra Señora del Socorro’s procession cape, of the Hermandad del Amor. It is an emblematic piece of Sevillian sacred textile art.

The dimensions of the studied object are 4.80 x 4.60 metres, made of maroon velvet on which a dense gold embroidery is applied. Made in 1957, the cape has undergone a restoration process during the last two years. A virtualisation was carried out by transferring architectural survey techniques to the documentation of its restored state.

In the work process, aerial photogrammetry techniques have been combined with topographic and photographic equipment from terrestrial photogrammetry. The results obtained, in high resolution, consist of a bank of images, digital models, orthophotos and sections, as well as videos to disseminate the asset. This enables an in-depth analysis of the geometry, techniques and materials used on the cape, useful for conservation. Pioneer in textile objects of these characteristics, this work has required adapting the techniques and equipment to the working environment of an embroidery workshop, as well as to the nuances of these shiny and sacred textile materials addressed.
