Abstract

The 2019 HMICFRS inspection report into Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) highlighted evaluation and the use of data as particular issues in both NFRS and in fire and rescue services (FRS) generally (HMICFRS 2019). In their second inspection report published in July 2022, HMICFRS (2022) found the service had improved in almost all areas since the round one inspection. The service is due to be inspected for a third time in March 2024, rescheduled from Autumn 2023.

NFRS made a clear commitment to continue to improve the use of data by jointly funding this piece of research in 2021 which has investigated four areas within the service.

This working paper outlines the overall finding and findings in full and in detail from all four areas:

a. Safe and Well visits (Prevention)
b. The Fire Cover Review (Response)
c. The Risk Based Inspection Programme: (Protection)
d. The move to Joint Headquarters with Nottinghamshire Police (Organisation-wide)
