Abstract
The relationship between social media use and human health is complex. The impact of social media on health is multifaceted, offering both significant benefits and notable risks. Problematic social media use is associated with psychological distress and behavioral issues, but social media provides opportunities for global connectivity, social support, and valuable health information, depending on how it is engaged (i.e., active vs. passive use). Salient recommendations for future studies are provided to enhance a holistic understanding of social media use and its impact on health.
