| Abstract: | Flourishing Education podcast - How to RE-MEMBER we ARE Flourishing Lifelong, Lifedeep, and Lifelong BEings In this imperfectly perfect conversation, I discuss the new book Researching with Young People. An introduction to Youth-Centred Research Methods with two of the authors Dr Frances Howard and Dr Karenza Moore. This is an important discussion for all adults who work or live with young people (parents, carers, guardians, teachers and researchers alike) and want to reflect on BE-ing and BE-COME-ing WITH young people. This episode is also selfishly very much for me as I am about to embark on my fieldwork in a school, and my work is a Participatory Action Research Project with young people and adult champions. Notice WITH (not another preposition) as this is important. We discuss in particular: -Power dynamics -Ethics in youth-centred research and challenges in institutional ethics -Practical strategies for engaging with young people -The power of small steps -Listening as a skill -Understanding young people's experiences -Adultism and how to challenge it -Creative Methods in Research -Embracing complexity in Youth research And we finish with the five principles for engaging WITH young people |
