Longitudinal survey of retired firefighters: social identity and adjustment to retirement.
[Dataset]
(Unpublished)
Abstract
This dataset contains anonymised responses from a two-wave longitudinal survey of 313 retired firefighters in the UK. The survey was conducted between March and December 2020 as part of a mixed-methods project exploring how social identity processes shape adjustment to retirement in vocational occupations. The study examined the role of multiple group memberships, firefighter identification, and identity transition strategies (maintaining, gaining, and restoring group memberships) in predicting meaning in life and wellbeing outcomes post-retirement. The dataset includes measures of social connectedness, mental health (e.g., depression, PTSD symptoms), life satisfaction, and loneliness, alongside demographic and retirement-related variables. The project was funded by The Fire Fighters Charity.
